General Information
Emory University has offered high-quality summer study abroad experiences
around the world for nearly forty years. These popular programs provide
opportunities for you to study aspects of another country's culture and society
in disciplines spanning the social sciences, the sciences, and the
humanities. Emory’s summer study abroad programs are planned and directed
by Emory faculty, and generally the courses are also taught by Emory faculty. The courses
are designed to take full advantage of the overseas setting in which they take
place.
As a participant on one of these summer study abroad programs, you are registered
at Emory for the summer. Grades and credits earned overseas are granted on
the same basis as those obtained on the Emory campus; credits are awarded in
semester hours. You should check with the study abroad office and/or academic
advisor at your home institution to determine how the credits and grades will
transfer back to your campus. At the conclusion of the program, an official
Emory transcript will be sent to the address you indicate on your application
form.
Eligibility Requirements
The Center for International Programs Abroad, which administers Emory’s
summer study abroad programs, requires that all applicants:
(a) Have and maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average, although
some programs may require a higher GPA (please see specific program descriptions for details).
(b) Be in good academic standing and remain in good standing.
(c) Be a high school graduate.
(d) Be at least 18 years of age.
(e) Have completed one full year of college and be currently enrolled in a
college/university.
Applicants from other schools will be considered as “students in special
standing” and must have the authorization of the Dean, Academic Advisor,
or Study Abroad Advisor at their home institution. Please see the Visiting
Student Application for further details.
Application Process and Deadlines
Applications will be accepted starting January 4, 2010. Applicants must submit to CIPA the Emory Summer Study Abroad Application (on-line), plus all accompanying documents and a $350 non-refundable deposit - please view your chosen program's application checklist for details.
In order to apply, visiting students complete the new online application form by clicking on the ‘Apply Now’ button on the respective summer program page.
THE FINAL DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS IS MARCH 2, however many programs will have earlier priority deadlines. Be sure to view your chosen program's page to view the deadline. Some programs generally close before the end of January, so early application is advised. Depending on the program, applications are either considered on a rolling basis in order of receipt or reviewed as a group. Once programs are full, applicants will be placed on a waiting list. Late applications will be considered for those programs not yet full. NOTE: The British Studies, Iberian Studies, and Italian Studies typically close before the end of January.
If you need to cancel your application for any reason, you must do so in writing to Branka Gajic, Summer Study Abroad Coordinator, Email: bgajic@emory.edu, no later than March 15. After this date, in addition to the non-refundable $350 deposit, other fees will be charged to your student account for unrecoverable expenses paid on your behalf. Please see the Refund Policy for further details.
Financial Aid, Scholarships, and Grants
