Peer Advisor Program
DEADLINE: mid-July
CIPA has established a system of peer
advising to represent the student perspective on study, research and service
abroad to the Emory community. The Peer Advisors, in addition to CIPA
staff, serve as a resource to inspire interest in study abroad by
enthusiastically sharing their personal insight and providing information about
the opportunities offered by CIPA.
These
positions pay $8.00 per hour.
Actual hours vary during the course of the semester, but may include up to 5
hours per week. Students do not need to be eligible for work
study in order to apply. However, if you are eligible for work study, please indicate this on your application form.

GENERAL
RESPONSIBILTIES:

Advise students on the basic
elements of study, research and service abroad including available
programs (semester, year, and summer), scholarship opportunities,
application deadlines and procedures, etc.

Attend initial training
session (in August at the beginning of the semester) and regular meetings
throughout each semester (TBA).

Assist CIPA Study Abroad
Advisors specific projects (as assigned) and pre-departure orientation
sessions.
-
Present information to groups
on campus including FAME groups, residence halls, student organizations,
selected classes, etc.

Hold office hours in the CIPA
office (usually 2 1/2 hours per week).

Assist CIPA staff in
presenting information at University events such as Sophomore Year
Experience, Admissions Visitation Days, Parent and Family Weekend, etc.

Staff general information
tables in the DUC, participate in Study Abroad Fairs, assist
in the coordination of the Study Abroad Photo Contest, and present at
information sessions.

Respond to emails from
interested students.

Contribute ideas, feedback,
and suggestions from the student perspective and work with CIPA to
implement new and better programming ideas.

Talk about your study abroad
experience to people who will listen, whenever you can.

Other duties as assigned or
as suggested by you!
QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Previous participation on an
Emory-approved study, research and/or service abroad program.
-
Ability to advise students in
a truthful and accurate manner, to uphold the policies and procedures of
CIPA and Emory, and to represent the office in a professional manner.

A positive attitude,
enthusiasm for experiences abroad, and a willingness to share your
experience with interested students.

Ability to use oral and
written communication effectively.
-
Commitment to work the entire
academic year.

Willingness to work flexible
hours (including weekends and evenings).
APPLICATION
PROCESS:
1. Go to www.cipa.emory.edu 2. Click on "Emory
Log-In" link on the upper right hand corner of the webpage 3. You will be
directed to your homepage that should list all study abroad programs on which
you have participated. Click on the Name/Link of your study abroad program. 4. This will take you to your online study abroad application. Scroll to the
Signature Documents section of the application and you should see a "Peer
Advisor Information" document. Please read and electronically sign this.
5. After reading and signing the Signature Document, please scroll down to the
Questionnaires portion of the online application. You should see a "CIPA
Peer Advisor Application" Questionnaire. Fill this out and click 'submit'.
If you have already filled out the Questionnaire, please log back in and read
and electronically sign the Signature document. Both must be complete in order
to apply for these positions.
Also, if you are a Summer 2009 student currently on a program that has yet to
be completed, please email CIPA directly if interested in applying. The
application material will not show-up on your online page until you have
completed your study abroad program, so CIPA will send you a hard-copy of the application via email.
